The Bible does not present God as a vague force, a distant idea, or a cold religious concept.
God is a real, living Being. God is personal. God sees, hears, knows, remembers, gives, forgives, rescues, teaches, leads, and loves.
He is far greater than we can understand, yet He comes near enough for a child to trust Him.
God is not merely a belief people hold.
He is the living God.
The Bible says:
“He is the living God, and He will endure forever.” Daniel 6:26 (NLT)
God has a dwelling place. He hears prayer. He sees the suffering of His children. He remembers that we are weak. He understands our frame. He knows what we need before we know how to ask.
The Bible says:
“The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and His ears are open to their prayers.” 1 Peter 3:12 (NLT)
That means you are not praying into empty air.
You are speaking to Someone who hears.
God is not too busy for you. He is not annoyed by your weakness. He is not surprised by your questions. He already knows the parts of your story you do not know how to explain.
And still He invites you near.
God has no beginning and no ending.
Everything we know had a starting point. Our lives began. The earth began. The stars began. Time itself belongs to the created order.
But God was already there.
The Bible says:
“Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, You are God.” Psalm 90:2 (NLT)
God is not here today and gone tomorrow. He does not grow old. He does not weaken. He does not fade. He does not become outdated.
The God who loved Adam, called Abraham, forgave David, strengthened Daniel, healed the sick through Jesus, and carried the early church is still alive today.
He is not temporary.
His love is not temporary.
His promises are not temporary.
His kingdom will never end.
God is all-powerful.
He created by His word. He holds life together. He rules over kings and kingdoms. He can open seas, shut lions’ mouths, feed multitudes, calm storms, raise the dead, and make all things new.
The Bible says:
“Power and might are in Your hand, and at Your discretion people are made great and given strength.” 1 Chronicles 29:12 (NLT)
God’s power is unlimited, but His power is not cruel.
That matters.
Power without love would be terrifying.
Love without power could pity us but not save us.
But God has both.
He has the power to rescue and the love to want to rescue.
He is strong enough to defeat sin, death, and Satan. He is gentle enough to hold a broken heart without crushing it.
Nothing is hidden from God.
He knows what we do. He knows what we think. He knows what we fear. He knows what wounded us. He knows what tempts us. He knows the future before it arrives.
The Bible says:
“O Lord, You have examined my heart and know everything about me.” Psalm 139:1 (NLT)
This can feel frightening at first.
But in the hands of Jesus, it becomes comforting.
God knows the worst about us and still loves us.
He knows the truth and still offers mercy.
He knows every hidden tear, every silent prayer, every burden carried alone, and every battle no one else sees.
You cannot hide from God, but you also do not need to.
He already knows.
And He still loves.
God is holy.
That means He is pure, righteous, faithful, and completely good. There is no selfishness in Him. No darkness. No corruption. No cruelty. No dishonesty.
The Bible says:
“The Lord is righteous in everything He does; He is filled with kindness.” Psalm 145:17 (NLT)
God’s holiness does not make Him harsh. It means His love is clean. His justice is clean. His mercy is clean. His motives are clean.
He does not forgive because sin does not matter.
He forgives because He has made a way to save sinners without pretending evil is harmless.
At the cross, we see both truths together.
Sin is serious enough that Jesus died for it.
Love is strong enough that Jesus chose to die for sinners.
God is not mercy without justice, nor is He justice without mercy.
He is perfectly both.
This may surprise many people.
God is humble.
Jesus said:
“Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart.” Matthew 11:29 (NLT)
Jesus did not come to earth to show us a different kind of God from the Father. He came to show us exactly what the Father is like.
So when Jesus says He is humble and gentle at heart, He is showing us the heart of God.
The Creator became a baby.
The King washed feet.
The Holy One ate with sinners.
The Judge allowed Himself to be judged.
The Life-Giver died on a cross.
God’s greatness does not make Him proud.
His greatness is seen in how low He was willing to come to save us.
The clearest summary of God’s character is this:
“God is love.” 1 John 4:8 (NLT)
This does not mean God merely feels loving.
It means love is who He is.
His power is loving power. His wisdom is loving wisdom. His justice is loving justice. His mercy is loving mercy.
His law is a law of love.
His warnings are warnings of love.
His judgments are not selfish outbursts. They are the actions of a God who hates what sin does to His children and His universe.
The Bible describes love this way:
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.” 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NLT)
Since God is love, this tells us something beautiful about God Himself.
God is patient.
God is kind.
God is not proud.
God is not rude.
God does not rejoice in injustice.
God rejoices when truth wins.
God never gives up on doing what love requires.
And the greatest evidence of that love is Jesus.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NLT)
God did not merely say He loved us.
He gave.
He came.
He suffered.
He died.
He rose.
And He is still working to bring His children home.
That is what the Bible says God is like.
